Ariake

Named after the Ariake Sea in Southern Japan, Ariake means “daybreak” in Japanese. It symbolizes a new chapter for two furniture companies, as they embark on this collaboration with international designers for the global market.

When Ariake started a few years ago now, the first collection consisted of 30 pieces, and now each year pieces are added.

The Japanese furniture brand Ariake and its designs originate from two intensive workshops in Morodomi.

This thus resulted in a collection of furniture that uses the best of hand and machine. Indeed, the spirituality of Japanese culture and urban living contexts, is the source of inspiration.

Furniture designers, art director, photographer and craftsmen did the same: they lived, worked and ate together until the result was there.

Despite language barriers, the designers and craftsmen generated a collective energy and mutual trust that helped define the soul of the brand.

If you are familiar with the typical – and incredible – Japanese joinery techniques, you will obviously be happy to find them in every part of the collection.

The first time we saw Ariake, was in Stockholm in the beginning of 2018. We were then astonished, amazed and simply completely silent. There was an immense feeling of peace coming over us that needed no words.

No explanation nor justification was needed. No questions asked. Just the enormous respect for a product, a scene or a world where everything is right. We will never forget that moment. We want to share it you so you might pass it on ever since.

Furniture designed by: Anderssen & Voll, Gabriel Tan, Keiji Ashizawa, Norm Architects, Shin Azumi, Staffan Holm, Zoe Mowat, Note design studio, and more designers soon…
